Georgia
Super Lawyers® Rising Star. Based on an extensive nomination
and polling process, Rising Stars represent the top 2.5% of the best
up-and-coming attorneys who are under 40, or practicing less than 10 years
in Georgia. Ms. Heit was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 2001. She is a member
of the Bar of the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court.
Ms. Heit is also a member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense
Lawyers, the Atlanta Bar Association, the Cobb County Bar Association, the
DeKalb County Bar Association, and the Defense of Drinking Drivers
Group. Marny has coached various mock trial teams for Emory University School
of Law.
EXPERIENCE
Ms. Heit joined CHESTNEY-HAWKINS in August of 2001. Since that
time, she has handled hundreds of DUI cases from start to finish, and has been lead
counsel in dozens of jury and bench trials. Her practice is limited
to representing and protecting the rights of those accused of alcohol
and drug-related offenses. While in law school, Ms. Heit interned for
the DeKalb County Public Defender's Office and the Federal Defender, Inc.
in Atlanta, Georgia. She also clerked at the Capital Defense Unit of the
Legal Aid Society of New York, New York. She has successfully
completed the summer and winter curriculum of the National College for DUI
Defense. Ms. Heit has also taught several sessions on cross-examination at
the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia.
EDUCATION
Syracuse University (B.A., 1998); Emory University School of Law (J.D.,
2001). Honors include: Induction into the Order of Barristers and Order
of Advocates for excellence in courtroom advocacy, membership in the Lamar
Inn of Courts, award for Best Speaker at the 2000 Irving R. Kaufman National
Securities Moot Court Competition.
